Drought, SW Wisconsin

I decided this morning to head out to find images for a photo essay on the drought in my corner of the state. These images are all from northeastern Iowa County or far northwestern Dane County.

To follow the current drought conditions, see the U.S. Drought Monitor site.

Other than the larger Produce Markets, like Peck's and Heck's, there have been no roadside stands of sweet corn yet this summer.

About half of this little oak tree is just brown like this.

In this area, these are quite common every summer. The soil is quite sandy, and doesn't hold water very well. I have seen many more irrigation systems running more often this summer. There are also more fields being irrigated than normal.
